(parents) and Brennen McHenry (athlete), #1 HS high jumper in Arizona PB: 2.13m 7’0” / Arizona state long jump champion PB: 24’10.25” (2023)

Markahm and Mary McHenry (parents): remember Brennen asking to try working with a specific high jump coach after his freshman season. I agreed not knowing that Coach Hugo was in Houston and we live in Arizona. I could see Brennen’s commitment to the sport so we made the trip to our first high jump camp with Hugo and the Kangaroo Track Club. It was clear from day one that we picked the right coach. Hugo’s patience, detail, and coaching style made all the difference. Brennen has learned so much from Hugo and increased his marks every year. He taught Brennen to be a real student of the sport through studying video and fine tuning every part of his jump. We couldn’t recommend Hugo and the Kangaroo Track Club high jump camp more highly.

Brennen McHenry (athlete): Hugo was my first real high jump coach after starting high jump freshman year of high school. I had no idea how to flop, run an approach, or think about high jump. I was a natural jumper from basketball and I knew that if I could get the right coaching and tools, my ceiling would be exponential. Hugo was the coach that unlocked that potential. He was the exact coach and mentor that I, and any athlete considering high jump, needed. Being in Arizona, I searched and searched the southwest for any high jump help and I am so grateful that I found the Kangaroo track club through an instagram video. I researched the camp more and realized that I found something special. I had to do some convincing to get my dad to bring me to Houston for a weekend high jump camp, but it was worth everything. Hugo gave me the coaching and tools I was desperately needing. Now it wasn’t an immediate switch, but as I continued to work on the techniques he showed me I started to flourish. I was almost a completely different jumper sophomore year improving my previous freshman mark of 5’10 to 6’5 in an offseason. And it does not stop there, I continue to attend these camps each year and I see tremendous improvements. Taking that 6’5 from sophomore year and turning it into a 6’10 junior year. And now I am still competing as a senior committed to the University of Texas with a 7’0 PR in high jump and 24’10.25” PR in long jump. I accredited all of the technique, training, and mindset to Hugo. He also helped me through my recruiting process and I received great guidance from his book, “The Recruiting Race”. I am so grateful for Kangaroo Track Club and would not be where I am now without Hugo, his coaching, and taking that chance to try his camp.
