(Dad) and Jacey Hammon (Athlete), 3X's Oklahoma State HJ Champion / PB: 1.78m / 5’10” (2023 outdoor and 2024 indoor and outdoor)
Kenny Hammon (Dad): Jacey has been a talented athlete young in High Jump as she was able to jump high all throughout Jr High but just wasn’t consistent every meet. We reached out and Hugo took the time to explain his teaching style and the structure of his camps. It was well worth the 5.5 hr drive to attend Kangaroo High jump last summer. He took a young athlete and turned her into a high jumper who understood the process both mentally and physically. As track season approached this year she was able to go back for a weekend full session while just being recovered from a high ankle sprain from basketball. Hugo was able to work with her mentally to help work through the block of recovering from an injury. The week leading into districts we were able to send video to Hugo and do a over the phone video analysis of her jumps going into the bigger meets. It was greatly beneficial and small tweaks were made that allowed her to win Districts, Regional and finish as the state runner up in 4a. Also to note the young lady who beat her is also a Kangaroo High Jumper and this year (2023) Jacey won the State Championship!! Much respect and gratitude to a great coach and human being Hugo!!! UPDATE FROM KENNY, AFTER JACEY WINNING STATE IN 2024: Coach where do I begin you are not only a coach and mentor to Jacey but you are my friend! Stephanie and I cannot not express the gratitude we have for you always being the straight up and amazing coach you are. You have treated Jacey like she was a kangaroo since day 1 four years ago!!! Today was the icing on the cake for a great HS career. If you do not have your kids at Kangaroo HJ with Hugo you are missing out!!!
Jacey Hammon (Athlete): Hugo’s coaching makes it so easy to understand and it’s about how it feels and remembering how it feels when you do things correctly. The first time I got to be trained by him i learned so much just the two days I was there. The 5.5 hour drive was so worth it. Through the season I got frustrated because my approach started not to feel right anymore, I got to sit down with my dad and him and analyze some jumps I did at a track meet. He tweaked some things, and I ended up being regional champion and class 4a state runner up and this year I was able to take home the gold and won the 2023 Oklahoma State Championship!! I’m beyond blessed i’ve had the opportunity to be coached by Hugo!! UPDATE FROM JACEY AFTER WINNING HER 3RD STATE TITLE IN 2024:Thank you Hugo I’m so thankful to have been able to have you as a coach and mentor the last 4 years. I owe you so much for improving my mental game, to learning how it is supposed to feel when you hit big jumps. Forever a Kangaroo!!
