Valery Brumel (Russian: Валерий Николаевич Брумель) (April 14, 1942 in the village of Razvedki, Tynda District in Amur Oblast – January 26, 2003 in Moscow) was a Soviet Olympic athlete. He broke the world record for the high jump six times from 1961 to 1963, from 2.23 metres (7’3 3/4″) to 2.28 metres (7′ 5 3/4″).
